Hello My Friends.
Today Kyle would love to talk about the raccoons with you, follow me and know more about them, the more you know, the less danger you may meet in future.
Raccoons, also called "coons" for short, they are 2-3 feet mammals.
Usually, it would be hard for you to see them during day time because of their nocturnal habits.
Raccoons are mostly from USA, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Panama, etc.
Then they were introduced to other area all over the world like Austria, Belgium, Czech, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Romania, the Russian federation, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, etc.
Some time, they become "pest" or "dangerous animal" in some situation like when you find them around your living area or meet them when you are walking your pets..
Why we say they could be "pest" or "dangerous animal"? Here I would explain to you,
1. Raccoons can damage your stuff
Raccoons will never stop rummaging your trash; also they are known to dig up your gardens and yards to search bugs and other food.
Raccoons will destroy shingles, remove siding, chimney caps and try many other ways to enter your house, once they get in, their urine and feces can cause much more damage.
2. Raccoons attack pets, or even human
Raccoons have been known to attack pets, fight with large dogs and easily killing small pets like small dogs, cats, pet rodents like rabbits etc.
If a raccoon attacked you or your pets, seek medical attention immediately and likely need to be vaccinated against rabies as soon as possible.
3. Raccoons carry several diseases
Propety damage will be ignored with contacting an infected or diseased raccoon.
Although raccoons usually do not attack human beings, but this is not something you want to risk, as raccoons are the number ONE carrier of rabies which can also carry Canine Distemper.
At the same time, raccoons carry leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that can transfer to human and pets by contaminated water and soil.
The raccoons which infected by the disease pass the bacteria in their urine, which could cause kidney damage, liver failure and even more problems to death in humans.
Their droppings pose another threat altogether, it is the Raccoon Roundworm, if they are in the raccoon's body, their eggs are shed in raccoons' feces which can either be ingested or even inhaled by human beings or pets.
Then how to get rid of these dangers from raccoons? Some tips for you:
Tip 1. Remove pet food which are kept outdoors, especially at night.
Tip 2. Keep outdoor garbage can locked.
Tip 3. Always keep small doors, windows or any entrance which raccoons could enter closed, especially at night.
All these Tips are easy to do but might be hard to keep doing for long time.
